Wisconsin Permanency Roundtables

The Permanency Roundtable (PRT) process is a professional consultation designed to expedite permanency for children and youth in out-of-home care through innovative thinking, the application of best practice, and the “busting” of systematic barriers. The process includes required follow-up to ensure steps are being taken to advance the action plan.

Purpose, Outcomes, Values

Purpose

A Permanency Roundtable (PRT) is a structured, professional case consultation resulting in a plan to expedite permanency for a child in care. The PRT process identifies and “busts” systematic barriers to expediting permanency.

Expected Outcomes

The primary goal for every Permanency Roundtable (PRT) is to achieve legal permanence through

  • Reunification
  • Adoption
  • Guardianship

If the child’s permanency status remains the same immediately following the PRT, the expected outcome would be a reduction in the level of restrictiveness of the child’s living situation. Other expected outcomes include:

  • Increased staff competency
  • Strengthening systems integration

Key Values

  • A sense of urgency
  • Relentless insistence upon permanency for each child
  • “New eyes” – a fresh perspective
  • Strengths-based, solution-focused, and non-blaming
  • “Out-of-the-box” thinking
  • Transparency and “real-time” learning
  • Accountability for results at all levels
