YoungStar and NAEYC Accreditation Changes On March 1, 2025, NAEYC introduced a redesigned version of their accreditation system. The new system gives programs multiple pathways, or tiers, for engaging in continuous quality improvement. Tier 1 – Recognition: Entry-level designation affirming foundational quality practices through a limited documentation review Tier 2 - Accreditation: An accreditation designation with a full documentation review and a potential site visit Tier 3 - Accreditation+: An advanced level of accreditation with a full documentation review, guaranteed site visit, and additional quality assurance measures As part of the implementation process for the new tiered system, NAEYC determined that all currently accredited programs would automatically transition to the Tier 3 - Accreditation+ status. To be consistent with this decision, YoungStar has aligned and updated its accreditation policy to match NAEYC's decision. As of March 1, 2025, all YoungStar participating programs seeking to receive a 5 Star rating through NAEYC accreditation will be required to attain Tier 3 - Accreditation+ status. All programs looking to renew their NAEYC accreditation in the future will also need to do so at the Tier 3 - Accreditation+ status. Want to Learn More?
