Quality Improvement is a Process

Nicole Schabow and Jenny Johnston of Gunderson Child Care Center share their story of how quality improvement is a continuous process that takes dedication and requires support.  Taking it one step at a time, teachers at Gunderson learned about assessing children's development and using that information to plan developmentally appropriate activities that meet children's interest.

After finding few care options for her own children, Sandy Amundson began her career opening her own child care program in Appleton, Wisconsin in 1986. In 1990, she began working at Faith Child Care and has spent nearly the past 30 years working to improve quality and create a sense of "family".

The Environment Makes the Difference

While collaborating with YoungStar Consultants and ERS Observers, Sandy Miller of Grandma Sandy’s Learning Den identified barriers and created improvement plans to support her goal of a 4 or 5 Star rating. Sandy values continuous quality improvement and is excited to become a formally-rated provider.

Small tweaks in processes and systems have helped Children’s Discovery Center in Stevens Point maintain its 5 Star rating. The program strives to provide high-quality services to their children and families by examining their intentions behind all activities.
