Trainer Expectations

The focus of the DFES Partner Training Team (PTT) is to provide training to new and experienced W-2 staff, Child Support workers, and supervisors. This includes policy, process, systems, and case management training for Wisconsin Works (W-2) and related programs, Wisconsin’s Temporary Assistance to Needy Families (TANF) program, and the Wisconsin Child Support Enforcement Program.

Trainers are expected to:

  • Develop and maintain standardized curriculum and training materials
  • Attend policy and automated systems information sessions
  • Work with other state and local governmental units on related projects
  • Participate in workgroups as assigned to complete various projects and provide input on policy and processes
  • Attend quarterly statewide training team meetings
  • Attend bi-weekly W-2 or Child Support staff meetings
  • Present training sessions as assigned
  • Track and report attendance at training sessions
  • Track and report evaluation of training sessions
  • Provide and report on-site support to local agencies
  • Participate in professional development activities
  • Provide ongoing support to W-2 New Workers participating in New Worker Online Training

Communication

Partner Training Team staff are located in home offices throughout the state. In order to compensate for the distance between staff and the Bureau and staff with each other, PTT has developed several standard communication processes.

Internal Communication

Trainers provide the section with weekly notes via e-mail. These notes indicate the location of each trainer and the projects they are working on for that week. This communication serves to alert other trainers on the availability of staff assistance and for lead staff to keep track of various projects.

PTT staff are required to maintain their Outlook calendars so that staff availability for assignments or for assistance is clear.

PTT staff keep updated voice mail messages. These messages must let the caller know if the trainer is in the office and when the caller can expect a response.

Meetings and Workgroups

Partner Training Team staff members attend several meetings, which can predict potential training issues. These may include BWF and BCS meetings, Operations meetings of W-2 agencies as well as monthly Monitoring Sections (BRO/MOS/PIPS) teleconferences, and Quarterly Monitoring Report Outs. Notes are taken at each of these meetings and shared with the Team, Division Management, as well as Section Managers and saved on the “S” drive.

Trainers often are assigned to participate in various ad hoc workgroups on topics in policy, case management, and systems. This participation can be in person or via distance. See the following documents for additional information on workgroups:

  • BWF Workgroup Matrix – S:\\DFES\BWF\Workgroups and committees\BWF Workgroups\
  • BWF Workgroup Roles/Responsibilities – S:\\DFES\BWF\Workgroups and committees\Tools\
  • BCS Workgroup Matrix – S:\\DFES\BCS\Bureauwide Projects\BCS Project Workgroups Plan

PTT meets as a full staff quarterly. The agenda for these meetings includes program updates, but the purpose is to share expertise and experience, coordinate our work, and have the opportunity to network together.

W-2 and Child Support training staff each have bi-weekly conference calls. The purpose of these meetings is to touch base, see how the training plans are moving along, and request or share resources.

There are individual touch base meetings at least once per month with a supervisor.

IDs

All PTT staff receive a DCF Picture Identification badge/access card. This badge provides access to the Tommy G. Thompson (TGT) building in Madison and contains the state tax exemption number for use with hotel payments by qualifying staff.
