Wisconsin Information and Support Portal (WiSP)

Simple illustration of people communicating

The Wisconsin Information and Support Portal (WiSP) is a new DCF application that provides individuals who have experience in Wisconsin’s child welfare system with direct access to select information and features stored within the state’s eWiSACWIS database as well as other features that support their well-being. WiSP is currently available to young adults ages 14 – 23, targeted towards those who currently are or were recently in out-of-home care (OHC). They can use WiSP to:

  • Review and update their contact and demographic information so that it is current, which will help with service outreach and communications.
  • Send messages via the message center so they can directly communicate with members of their support team.
  • Access a resource inventory with many resources relevant to having OHC experience and transitioning to adulthood. This includes, but is not limited to, needs related to housing, employment, education, transportation, cultural connections, basic needs and more.
  • Engage in Independent Living Transition to Discharge (ILTD) planning, which is one of the most interactive features of the portal. This allows youth to provide input about, make corrections to and reflect on different parts of the plan. (ILTD planning is not applicable to all WiSP users.)
  • Receive relevant reminders that remind them of specific actions to complete in the portal or important deadlines to keep in mind.
  • Receive general external notifications that alert them when there is activity in their portal that they need to be aware of.

Child welfare professionals use eWiSACWIS in new and advanced ways to provide information to WiSP users via the portal and review information the WiSP user shares back. Information located within and shared between WiSP and eWiSACWIS is securely stored and transferred.

How WiSP works

  • WiSP users access WiSP via phone, tablet or web browser while child welfare professionals engage with WiSP information via eWiSACWIS > WiSP Review Page. Child welfare professionals can “build” a support team that’s visible to the WiSP user; shared information includes the professional’s name, agency, supervisor and email and/or phone, if selected.
  • Both WiSP users and child welfare professionals can view information sent securely between WiSP and eWiSACWIS. WiSP users can provide direct feedback, input and edits to information shared to WiSP. Child welfare professionals can review WiSP user submissions, either choosing to accept, decline or request more information from the WiSP user. Accepted submissions update the corresponding information directly in eWiSACWIS.
  • WiSP users and child welfare professionals can message each other directly, supporting timely, easy and user-friendly communications that supplement other connections like face-to-face contacts, phone calls and meetings.
  • WiSP users receive direct and timely notifications both within the app and via preferred external method (text or email) when there is new information to view in the application.
