hands in a circle

We post all open jobs on wisc.jobs. This is the website for all jobs in Wisconsin state government. Each job posting includes a Position Summary that describes the job and the specific Qualifications we are looking for in a candidate.

You will be required to upload a resume and/or letter of qualifications to complete your application. You may also be required to provide other documents. Please refer to the job posting to see which documents are required.

Qualifications

Each posting will have a qualifications section which highlights what we are looking for in a candidate. It is important that you address these in both your resume and letter of qualifications. You must have all of the minimally qualified skills mentioned in your materials to be determined eligible.

  • Minimally qualified: need to be able to do/have done before starting
  • Well-qualified: preferred, but willing to teach the right candidate

Resume

Before applying be sure to update your resume to best reflect your experience and qualifications that relate to the job you are applying for. It should include:

  • Educational background, including any coursework that is related to the position you are applying for.
  • Employment history, including accomplishments and skills used.
  • Your phone number and email address.

Do not include any personal details in your resume that do not relate to the job. Examples include photos, gender, ethnicity, or political party.

Letter of Qualifications

A letter of qualifications is a one to two page document that supplements and expands on the information provided in your resume. It is not a standard cover letter and does not need to include why you want the job.

It should include specific examples of your experience and training as they relate to each of the qualifications listed in the job posting.

Some helpful prompts include:

  • My experience in [skill] is...
  • Examples of work I have performed in [skill] include...

Below is an example of a job that includes experience in project management:

  • Not recommended: I was the lead of a project that focused on rewriting a training policy.
  • Recommended: I was the lead of a six-month project that focused on rewriting a training policy. As part of this role, I oversaw seven staff performing a variety of tasks and ensured that all deadlines were met, and the project remained on schedule. Due to my expertise, ability to lead, and innovative thinking, the training policy has reduced new hire training from 45 to 30 days.
