Hands holding heart visualSeptember is Kinship Care Month

September is Kinship Care Month! The Department of Children and Families recognizes the relatives, members of tribes and clans and non-related extended family members who are essential care providers to children across the state.

Relative and kinship caregivers are crucial to children maintaining family relationships and cultural connections. And because we know kids do best when they are with their families, we know how important kinship care is to thriving families and homes. In Wisconsin, we believe in making sure these caregivers are connected to the resources they need to support the children in their care.

This support can come from communities wrapping around families to provide resources and services. Or it can look like connecting families to programs like Wisconsin’s Kinship Care program, which provides financial support to relatives who are supporting a child in their home.

This September is an opportunity to affirm and support the role relatives and kin caregivers play in providing care and stability for children across the state – thank you for all you do to support families and communities!
