Child Care Certification Policy Manual
The initial screening of the complaint/incident is a critical function and should do the following:
Assess the level of risk the alleged violation(s) poses to children in care (see 3.1. and 4.) and determine the time frame required for initial response.
Determine whether the complaint(s) involves an allegation of a violation over which certification has regulatory authority (see section 3.2.).
Identify which administrative rule(s) has been potentially violated and, therefore, will form the focus of the investigation.
Determine whether another agency shares regulatory authority over issues in the complaint/incident and also needs to be involved in the investigation (see section 3.2.).
Note: In addition to review of Section 3, also see section titled “Incident, Accident and Death Reporting” in this module for guidance regarding screening self-reports and making determinations regarding appropriate next steps.
