Child Care Certification Policy Manual
Substitutes and other caregivers / providers in a certified setting, but meet SIDS, AHT/SBS and pre-service training requirements. If the certified operator is approved to care for infants under age one, the substitute/provider must also complete SIDS training before s/he is approved. If the certified operator is approved to care for children under age 5 the substitute/provider needs to complete department-approved AHT/SBS training before s/he is approved. See Policy Module 5– Training for more details.
Under DCF 202.08(5)(j) the operator must maintain documentation of the actual hours that a provider who is not also the operator has worked.
If a substitute is approved to work in a certified family child care, the certified operator must keep track of the hours the substitute is in charge. The substitute must complete department-approved entry level training before working 240 work hours (about 24-30 days). The 240 hours is cumulative, not each year. Documentation of the hours worked must be kept on file at site and available for the certification agency to review if requested. This is most easily documented using the state provided daily attendance record form. Section C of the form provides space for the operator to record the provider(s) schedule.
