6.3 A Word About the Wisconsin Registry and YoungStar

The Wisconsin Registry is Wisconsin’s recognition system for the early childhood care and education profession. The Wisconsin Registry verifies educational qualifications. The Wisconsin Registry awards a certificate verifying that entry level and continuing education requirements have been met. Participation / membership in The Wisconsin Registry is not required for Certification. However, if an operator wishes to move beyond a 2 Star rating in YoungStar, a provider must create a Registry Profile.

Tiered Training is training that is approved by the Wisconsin Registry and given by an approved instructor. There are 4 approved Training Tiers. Registered training (previously bar code labels) will provide a certificate of training that contains a training bar code number. Tiered training is not required for certification continuing education.

Although participation in YoungStar is required in order to receive Wisconsin Shares funding on behalf of eligible families, certified operators who do not meet the educational qualifications for a rating of 3 or higher Stars will be rated at a 2 Star level.
