19.3  Caretaker Supplement

The Wisconsin Department of Health Services (DHS), which administers the state’s SSI program, also administers the Caretaker Supplement (CTS) program. The program provides a monthly payment in addition to the SSI payment to help with the support of SSI recipients’ dependent children. A monthly CTS payment is issued for each eligible child. The payment amount is two hundred seventy five dollars ($275) for one eligible child and one hundred sixty five dollars ($165) for each subsequent eligible child in the household.

County or tribal social/human services agencies are responsible for administering the CTS program and providing policy information to the SSI recipient.

For the purpose of budgeting income for W-2 eligibility, W-2 agencies must treat the monthly CTS payment as unearned income received by the SSI recipient.  Retroactive CTS payments are treated as a lump sum payment.

For additional information about the CTS program, see the CTS webpage at:  http://www.dhs.wisconsin.gov/ssi/caretaker.htm.
