18.1 Caretaker Supplement

The Wisconsin Department of Health Services (DHS), which administers the state’s SSISSISupplemental Security Income program, also administers the Caretaker Supplement (CTS) program. The CTS program provides a monthly payment in addition to the SSI payment to help with the support of SSI recipients’ dependent children. A monthly CTSCTSCaretaker Supplement payment is issued for each eligible child.

County or tribal social/human services agencies are responsible for administering the CTS program and providing policy information to the SSI recipient.

For W-2W-2Wisconsin Works eligibility purposes, W-2 agencies must treat the monthly CTS payment as unearned income received by the SSI recipient. Retroactive CTS payments are treated as a lump sum payment.

For additional information about the CTS program, including current payment amounts, see the DHS Caretaker Supplement webpage.
