7.3 When a Third Party is Investigating

Although BECR is responsible for conducting an investigation to determine whether there are rule violations related to a self-reported incident, a self-report may identify an incident that is within the jurisdiction or regulatory authority of a third party, such as child protective services (CPS) or law enforcement. In these situations, the investigation may be conducted jointly by the third party and BECR licensing staff. For some incidents, the licensing specialist may be advised to wait for the other agency’s findings before conducting the BECR investigation. If CPS screens out the incident and does not allege any rule violations, the CPS report regarding the incident is considered supplemental information to BECR’s own investigation of the self-report.
