It is not always possible to pinpoint an exact day that the voluntary temporary closure begins or ends. For example, a temporary closure for a maternity leave is likely dependent on when a baby is born and that date may be unknown at the time the temporary closure notice is completed. In such a case, the best approximation of each date should be entered in the Notice of Voluntary Temporary Closure of the Child Care Center. If the licensee cannot estimate a date for reopening, the end date should be left blank. The licensing specialist should instruct the licensee to inform the licensing specialist later when actual begin and end dates are determined. The licensing specialist can then update the notice and provide the licensee with a copy of the amended Notice of Voluntary Temporary Closure of Child Care Center.
The licensing specialist should initiate contact with the licensee during the closure period under the following circumstances:
If the reopening date, as specified in the Notice of Voluntary Temporary Closure of Child Care Center, has passed and the licensee has not informed the licensing specialist that the center is reopening, or,
If the Notice of Voluntary Temporary Closure of Child Care Center did not indicate a date that the center would reopen, but six months has elapsed since the beginning date of the closure.
The purpose of the contact with the licensee is to determine whether the licensee is planning to reopen and when, unless reopening is imminent (within five business days). The licensing specialist should advise the licensee that s/he needs to review the voluntary temporary closure agreement and determine how much longer the voluntary temporary closure is expected to last. If the voluntary closure will be extended, the licensing specialist enters a new end date and asks the licensee to sign an amended Notice of Voluntary Temporary Closure of Child Care Center that extends the closure date.
