Child Care Licensing Procedure Manual
A Notice of Voluntary Temporary Closure of Child Care Center states that the licensee will cease operating for a period of time with the expectation that the licensed center will reopen; it means s/he does not wish to surrender the license and close the center permanently. Temporary closures do not have a time limit and may go on indefinitely, as long as minimum licensing requirements can be reviewed and determined to be met for purposes of license continuation.
When the licensing specialist learns that a licensee intends to voluntarily temporarily close, usually through a phone or email contact, the licensing specialist may complete the Notice of Voluntary Temporary Closure of Child Care Center using the information provided by the licensee or request that the licensee complete it. The licensing specialist mails, emails, or hand delivers it to the licensee for a signature; the licensee signs and returns it to the licensing specialist. The Notice is also signed and dated by the licensing specialist. The Notice sets forth the following:
Name of the child care center
Facility identification number
Address of the facility
Reason for the closure
Date and time that the center is closed
Date the center is expected to reopen, if known
Agreement to provide the BECR licensing specialist notice of reopening the center five working days prior to the reopening
Agreement that child care background checks will still be conducted by BECR
Agreement that the licensee may not operate the center or accept any children for care during the closure
Agreement to post the Notice of Voluntary Temporary Closure of Child Care Center next to the license
The standardized format for this type of temporary closure, titled Notice of Voluntary Temporary Closure of Child Care Center, is located on the BECR Intranet.
