Child Care Licensing Procedure Manual

1. Voluntary Temporary Closure Initiated by Licensee and Licensed Centers with No Children in Care

A voluntary temporary closure is initiated by the licensee when s/he determines that the center will need to be closed for a few weeks or months. Voluntary temporary closures are reported to and documented in WISCCRS by the licensing specialist.

If the licensee will close the center for more than two weeks, a Notice of Voluntary Temporary Closure of Child Care Center must be completed five days before the closing. The licensing specialist should request that the licensee document the closure by completing and signing a Notice of Voluntary Temporary Closure of Child Care Center.

Voluntary temporary closures most often occur in family child care centers. Common reasons for voluntary temporary closures include maternity leave, a sick leave needed to address a health issue impacting the licensee or a family member, an absence needed to complete coursework, a death in the family, or an extended vacation.

Guidance for handling situations in which a licensed center is not temporarily closed, but has no children in care, is described in section 1.10 - Licensed Centers Not Temporarily Closed But with No Children in Care.
