Overview - Family Child Care Licensing

Family child care centers are facilities operated by an individual required to be licensed under Wis. Stat. § 48.65 and licensed by the Department of Children and Families (DCF) under Wis. Stat. § 48.66 to provide care and supervision for between four and eight children under 7 years of age for less than 24 hours a day.

Pursuant to Wis. Stat. § 48.65(1), no person may for compensation provide care and supervision for four or more unrelated children under the age of 7 for less than 24 hours a day unless that person obtains a license to operate a child care center from DCF.
