4.1 Completing the Licensing Checklist During the Probationary Period

The six-month probationary period is a critical time for the licensee. The licensing specialist can be instrumental in providing the advice and technical assistance that ensures that the program gets off to the best start possible. It can also be the time to eliminate failing programs. For this reason, the licensing specialist makes at least one or more on-site visits within the first three months of issuance of the probationary license and one or more on-site visits in the last three months of the probationary period.

The complete Licensing Checklist–Family Child Care Centers DCF 250 (CFS-DCF-F0069), contained in the iPad mobile application, is used to monitor compliance with rules during the probationary period. The licensing specialist must review all rules on the licensing checklist, although it is not necessary to recheck those items that were monitored and verified as met before issuance of the probationary license. (Since certain rules must be verified as met before the probationary license was issued, these verified rules may or may not be specifically reviewed during the probationary period.) Rules already monitored and verified during the initial licensing study can be checked as met in the mobile application or can be left blank in the mobile application for the duration of the probationary period.
