The CBU follows the DECE Records and Retention Disposition Authorization (RDA) policy. The RDA is a binding legal document for records disposal that details the retention and final disposition of the records series it covers. RDAs are needed for all media and for records stored in the state office and other locations (not just for records sent to the State Records Center). The RDA form is used to secure approval for the disposition of public records. It outlines how long the records are maintained and their disposition after the retention period has ended. RDAs, also called records schedules, authorize the disposal of records after a specific period of time or a certain event has happened in the manner stated on the form (i.e., destroy, destroy confidential, transfer). For additional information, see the current RDA requirements and the Record Retention chapter in the BECR procedure manual.
