Child Care Background Check Procedures
An annual FBI fingerprint check is required for individuals who currently reside outside of Wisconsin. Out-of-state fingerprint checks are conducted on individuals age 18 or older who are subject to the background check law and who indicate on the Background Check Request form that they currently reside out of state. The individual is responsible for the cost of the annual FBI check, plus processing fees. The annual name-based DOJ check is not required when an out-of-state FBI fingerprint check is performed annually because the Wisconsin DOJ results are included in the fingerprint check results. Once the results are received, the CBU must determine whether the person has been convicted of a crime comparable to one on the Barred Offenses Table or whether substantial relatedness exists.
