Child Care Background Check Procedures
Minor household members age 10-17 are required to submit a Background Check Request form.
The child may complete their own Background Check Request form or their parent/legal guardian may complete it on their behalf. If the minor completes and signs the Background Check Request form, it is important that the parent/legal guardian review the form to ensure the information that is provided is accurate. If it is determined that the licensee/certified operator was aware that the minor provided false information on the Background Check Request form, a noncompliance statement may be issued to the licensee (or the certification agency may issue a noncompliance statement to the certified operator). Other enforcement action may be taken, up to and including denial or revocation of the regulatory approval.
The CBU reviews the Background Check Request forms submitted for minor household members and may conduct a full background check on minor household members if the completed Background Check Request form indicates a concern. Generally, a criminal background check is not necessary for a minor unless the minor answered “yes” to any question in Section B of the Background Check Request form or if there is another reason to conduct a complete background check.
