Child Care Background Check Procedures
An applicant for licensure or certification must submit all required Background Check Request forms for each individual age 10 and older to the regional licensing office or certification agency as part of the initial application process. Background Check Request forms are then updated in the Child Care Provider Portal by the licensee/operator every 5 years. Background Check Request forms are also required to be submitted to the CBU, the certification agency or by using the CCPP when any of the following changes occur:
Change to head of governing board. (Cannot be done in CCPP. Must contact licensing or certification worker.)
Change in members or managers of an LLC. (Cannot be done in CCPP. Must contact licensing or certification worker.)
When a minor resident or household member turns 10 years old.
When a new prospective employee or prospective household member age 10 and older is added to the program. A new prospective household member or prospective employee must receive a preliminary approval notice from the CBU before they may begin residence or employment at a child care center under supervision. (Note: If certified, the certification agency must also review and approve a prospective caregiver’s qualifications under Wis. Admin. Code DCF 202.08(1) before the individual may begin working in the certified program.)
