4.1.1 Non-Credit Course Descriptions

Introduction to the Child Care Profession

This course is designed for individuals interested in working as an assistant child care teacher in a group center or as a family child care provider. Topics include: quality child care environments, child development, positive guidance, recognizing child abuse and neglect, routines / schedules, transitions, nutrition, universal precautions, health and safety, SIDS, AHT/SBS, respect for diversity, parent communication and stress management.

 

Fundamentals of Family Child Care

This course is for individuals who wish to start a family child care business. Topics include establishing a family child care business, program and financial records, policies for health, safety, nutrition and development of children, state regulation requirements, professionalism, parent communication, and activity planning.

 

Principles of Child Care Certification

This combines elements of the Introduction to the Child Care Profession (approximately 15-20 hours) and Fundamentals of Family Child Care (approx. 6-8 hours) and is for individual who wish to become certified providers. This course will not meet licensing requirements.

 

 

Note: Fundamentals of Family Child Care does not meet the AHT/SBS or SIDS training requirement. Fundamentals of Infant and Toddler Care does meet the SIDS (if completed after September 2001) and SBS or AHT training requirements (if completed as of 7/1/05).
