3.3 SBS/AHT in Department-Approved Entry Level Training

SBS training was incorporated into the Introduction of the Child Care Profession July 1, 2005. Abusive Head Trauma (AHT) Prevention Training was incorporated into this course 9/1/20. If an individual completed this training (online, correspondence or in person format) after July 1, 2005, s/he has met the SBS/AHT training requirement. Effective 4/1/18, completion of pre-service training is required within 3 months of granting provisional certification and the Introduction to the Child Care Profession Course includes SBS/AHT training if taken after July 1, 2005.

Note: When entering the Introduction to the Child Care Profession training course in WISCCRS, the certification worker also will need to enter the SBS training separately, even if the Introduction to the Child Care Profession course was completed after July 1, 2005. This is because the system is not programmed to determine whether or not the course also meets SBS requirement, based on year it was completed. The system does not yet have an AHT training drop down value so selecting SBS is allowable.

If an individual has completed a credit-based course called “Health, Safety and Nutrition,” as part of an Associate Degree from a technical school, they have also met the SBS/AHT and SIDS training requirement. Although it is possible other credit-based courses may include SIDS and SBS/AHT, the school must issue a certificate of completion for SIDS/SBS or indicate this on the transcript, if the school offers this training in another credit-based course.

Although not approved for meeting pre-service training requirements the department –approved non-credit course called Fundamentals of Infant and Toddler Care also meets the SBS/AHT training requirements if completed after 7/1/05.
