2.5 Documentation of SIDS Training

If the applicant for certification is granted certification to care for children under one (1) year of age, the certification worker will need to document SIDS training completion in WISCCRS by entering the date the SIDS training was completed. Effective 4/1/18, all pre-service training documents shall be uploaded into WISCCRS. See WISCCRS User Guide – Documents for more information.

If applicants for certification or other providers (employees, substitutes, etc.) complete the SIDS training requirement independently (vs. completing an in-person formal class training), certifiers may choose to use the Continuing Education Record – Independent Reading / Video Viewing form to document the individual’s review of the SIDS materials or videos.

This documentation should be uploaded in the operator’s record as described above.

If the certification worker provides the SIDS training at the site visit, the information shall be entered into WISCCRS. It is best if the certification worker indicates in the comment field what and how the training was provided. See example below:

Note: When entering the Introduction to the Child Care Profession training course or Principles of Child Care Certification course in WISCCRS, the certification worker also will need to enter SIDS training separately, even if the Introduction to the Child Care Profession course was completed after September 2001. This is because the system is not programmed to determine whether or not the course also meets SIDS requirement, based on year it was completed. There is not a validation between entry-level training (Introduction to Child Care Profession/Principles of Child Care Certification) entered and ages served in WISCCRS. Because of this, a certification worker will be required to enter the Introduction to the Child Care Profession course or Principles course and SIDS training separately in WISCCRS in order to enter ages served less than age 1.
