3.4.1 Background Checks

In order to grant certification, the applicant's / operator’s background check must result in a final eligible determination by DCF. The certification agency submits the Background Check Request via WISCCRS and the DCF CBU conducts background checks in accordance with 48.686, on the applicant / operator and other individuals subject to the Background Check Law. Certification workers may not grant initial certification unless the applicant and other individuals age 18 and older in the home have received a final “eligible” determination by the DCF CBU. Effective February 2020 the department discontinued conducting CPS checks on minor household members unless there is a disclosure on the BCR that required a background check be completed.

List of serious offenses.

Certification workers will be notified via the WISCCRS Dashboard regarding the status of background checks and subsequent eligibility determinations. Certification workers should log into WISCCRS and check the dashboard regularly for timely messages and updates.

The status of the background check can be found under the Background Check link for each individual.
