Child Care Certification Policy Manual
Section 48.651 requires counties and tribes to certify child care providers that receive public funding (Wisconsin Shares Child Care Subsidy) if the provider / program is not licensed by DCF or operated by a public school district. Certification is voluntary for providers not mandated by law to be licensed. See in this module Section 5 - Licensing for further information about the licensing law.
The rules governing the administration of child care funds (subsidy) are found in DCF 201 and 49.155. Certification is not required or allowed if the provider is licensed by the Department as a family child care center.
