Resolve "Page not Displayed" error  Back to top

If eWiSACWIS system users report that they can't sign on to the system because they are receiving a "page not displayed" error, the problem may be that the URL they are using is incorrect.  

The correct URL is http://apps.dcf.wisconsin.gov/ewisacwis/   Be sure to include the final backslash.

If you have Windows XP as your operating system and have recently installed Service Pack 2 (SP2), you may note that the eWiSACWIS application closes when you enter your username/password and click the 'Submit' button.

Windows XP SP2 has a pop-up blocker feature that prevents pop-up windows from appearing. As the eWiSACWIS application opens windows as pop-up pages, the Windows XP operating system proceeds to close the application.

If your operating system is Windows XP and you have installed SP2 follow these steps:

    1) Open Internet Explorer 

    2) From the Menu, click on Tools>Internet Options 

    3) Click on the Privacy tab

    4) Uncheck the 'Block pop-ups' check box. (The 'Settings' button allows advanced settings) 

    5) Click OK

If you have Windows XP as your operating system and have recently installed Service Pack 2 (SP2), you may note that an internet address bar is appearing on the bottom of the eWiSACWIS page, cutting off application buttons and/or the bottom of the page.   You must have Admin rights to do this; if you do not, contact your local IT department.

1)       Open Internet Explorer

2)    Click on Tools > Internet Options  

3)       Click on the Security Tab

   4)       Click on the ‘Trusted sites’ icon and then the ‘Sites’ button

    5)       Type in  *.dcf.wisconsin.gov in the ‘Add this Web site to the zone:’ field.      Make sure the ‘Require server verification (https:) for all sites in this zone’ is NOT checked.  Click OK.

A:  Install Office XP Service Pack 3

Word documents launched from the eWiSACWIS system open using fonts other than Arial and Times New Roman (typically MS Mincho font). The formatting of the document is also impacted. This is a known issue to Microsoft. To learn more about the problem please see the following URL (Microsoft.com website).

There are two solutions to this problem. First is to contact Microsoft support and ask for the patch that resolves this issue (contact information is available from the above URL). Service pack 2 must be installed before you can apply the patch

The other solution, as listed on the Microsoft website, is to delete the 3 fonts (MS Mincho, MS Gothic, and Arial Unicode) from the local machine. To do this, open Windows Explorer and select the Control Panel icon. Expand the Fonts icon to show all fonts. Right click on the icons for the MS Mincho, MS Gothic and Arial Unicode fonts and delete them.

A:  A prompt is displayed asking if the site is a trusted site whenever a template is launched.

To fix this, Open IE and select the Tools > Internet Options from the menu bar. Choose the Security tab and click on the Settings button. Find the ActiveX controls and change the selection from Prompt to Enable.

Q: Adjust MS Word macro settings   Back to top

A:  This is dependant on the version of MS Word being used.

Word 97 - does not give the user the options to set Macro security settings. Therefore, the enable macro issue would not be possible with this version of Word.

Word 2000 - The setting should be set to "Medium" - Tools>Macros>Security. If the users machine has Administrator Rights, then the onsite support person can make the update. If the user does not have administrator rights then the IT contact person should be contacted to make this change. In some counties, the IT person can access each of the machines remotely and make this update without being on the machine personally. Additionally, the county may give you the administrator login ID and Password so that you can make this change.

Word 2002 - The Office XP Service Pack 3, Microsoft Word 2002 Patch, or the delete font workaround must be done to ensure that fonts and formatting are not affected. More information on doing this can be found in the answer to the template display question (above).

Word 2002 does give the user the options to set Macro Security Settings. This should be done and the setting should be set to "Medium" - Tools>Macros>Security. If the user's machine has Administrator Rights, then the onsite support person can make the update. If the user does not have administrator rights then the IT contact person should be contacted to make this change.

Word 2003 and 2007 - See OCX Macro Message fix

A: A prompt is displayed asking if mixed content can be displayed.

To fix this, open Internet Explorer and select the Tools > Internet Options from the menu bar. Choose the Security tab and click on the Settings button. Find the Miscellaneous controls and change the selection for the Display Mixed Content from Prompt to Enable.

Q:Fix screen lock up when using MS Word spell check in templates   Back to top

A: When performing spell-check in eWiSACWIS and it appears to "lock up" or "freeze" on one specific field, you can use one of these options below. Depending upon Local Network and Desktop settings, you may be able to access the Spell Check window using one or more of the following three options:

Right-clicking on the Task Bar and selecting Cascade Windows.

1. 1. This will cascade all the windows that are currently open.
2. 2. You will be able to click on the Spell Check window.
3. 3. Clicking on the Spell Check window will bring it to the foreground.
4. 4. Your input will allow the spell check process to continue.

Right-clicking on the Task Bar and selecting Minimize Windows.

1. 1. This should minimize all the windows you have open except for the Spell Check window.
2. 2. You will be able to click on the Spell Check window.
3. 3. Your input will allow the spell check process to continue.

Using MS Window’s <Alt> + <Tab> functionality

1. 1. Select and hold down the <Alt> key
2. 2. Continue to hold down <Alt> key
3. 3. Press and Release the <Tab> key (this will highlight each window that is currently open).
4. 4. Do this until the MS Word icon with Spelling listed as the title is highlighted.
5. 5. Then Release the <Alt> and <Tab> keys simultaneously.
6. 6. This should bring the Spell Check screen to the forefront.
7. 7. Your input will allow the spell check process to continue.

For workers that access eWiSACWIS through Citrix (or thin-client). The <Alt> + <Tab> combination of may not work.

Q: Turn off word balloons in MS Word 2002   Back to top

A:  While using MS Word 2002 or MS Word 2003 you may see "call-out" boxes, as shown below, appear in the right margin of the text template.

To eliminate this problem:

1. Open the text template
2. Click on button labeled "Show". If no button labeled "Show" appears open a new instance of MS Word and select View>Toolbars>Reviewing.
3. Choose the 'Options' menu item
4. In the 'Balloons' group box, uncheck the box titled 'Use balloons in Print and Web Layout'.
5. Click OK

A:  This document addresses these printing issues:

1. The right side of an eWiSACWIS page, such as Title IV-E Eligibility, is cut off in the print out.
2. The text is cut in half at the top and/or bottom of the print out when printing Case Notes.
3. The web address displays on the bottom of the print out when printing from eWiSACWIS.

To fix these problems, open Internet Explorer. From the menu click on File> Page Setup. Adjust the default Left and Right margins (0.75") to increase the width of the print out to solve issue #1. If the right side of the print out is still being cut off, try selecting the Landscape radio button instead. Adjust the default Top and Bottom margins (0.75") to decrease/increase the height of the print out to solve issue #2. Delete the default text from the Header (&w&bPage &p of &P) and/or Footer (&u&b&d) fields to not display page numbers or the web address on the print out, which solves issue #3.

Please note that these changes will affect all printing from Internet Explorer. If you wish to reset Page Setup, you will need to enter back the original values.

Q: Handle a time-out      Back to top

A:   The State of Wisconsin security policy requires users to log back in to any web application after 120 minutes of inactivity.  If this occurs, you will see the page shown below.  This can be avoided if you save or search at least every 120 minutes (2 hours).

To fix this:

1. Do not close out of eWiSACWIS. If you do, the data you entered won’t be saved.
2. Enter your user name and password and then click Login.
3. You will be returned to eWiSACWIS where you can continue your work.

A:   Open IE and select the Tools > Internet Options from the menu bar. Choose the Advanced tab and find the "Force offscreen competing even under Terminal Server …" check box and uncheck it.
