Real Work Real Pay
The “Real Work, Real Pay" (RWRP) pilot initiative is part of Governor Doyle’s Grow Wisconsin initiative to help move W-2 participants to increased economic independence. The pilot will help participants obtain work experience and strengthen employment skills in a job that pays wages, instead of cash assistance.
Three agencies will implement this pilot from June 1, 2008 through December 31, 2009. Kenosha, Marathon and in Milwaukee Policy Studies, Inc. will partner with employers by providing a wage subsidy, and provide mentoring and work supports to help each worker succeed. RWRP employees will be eligible for the Earned Income Tax Credit, a benefit that will help them support their children and families. When the wage subsidy ends, the employer is expected to retain the RWRP participant as an unsubsidized employee.
The pilot will assist the department in identifying successful strategies that help W-2 participants succeed in finding increased economic independence. The lessons learned from the RWRP pilot will inform future decisions on how to expand RWRP.
