Food Stamp Employment and Training Program (FSET)

All persons who apply for and receive food stamps are encouraged to voluntarily participate in a work program called FSET.  Individuals who volunteer to participate in FSET improve work opportunities and work-related skills. Types of services will vary in each agency. All agencies provide job search assistance. Many also offer help in obtaining a high school diploma, GED certificate, or obtain training in a specific skill. Contact the Wisconsin Works (W-2) agency to describe the kinds of services available.

Some FSET Activities Include:

  • Adult Basic Education
  • Driver’s Education
  • English as a Second Language (ESL)
  • Employment Search
  • General Education Development
  • High School Equivalency
  • Job Skills Training (Non-ABAWDs)
  • Literacy Skills
  • Job Readiness/Motivation
  • On-the-Job Training
  • Orientation
  • Regular School
  • Work Experience
  • Workfare (ABAWDs)
  • Short-term Vocational Training
  • Supportive Services Including Counseling
  • Parenting/Life Skills

Some of these activities may not be available in each agency. Participants enrolled in the FSET program are expected to be assigned and participate in program activities for up to, but not more than, 30 hours per week. FSET participants will not be assigned to more than 120 hours in a month.
