Wisconsin Works (W-2)
Custodial Parent of an Infant
Under Wisconsin Works (W-2), a custodial parent of a child 12 weeks old or younger who meets the financial and nonfinancial eligibility requirements for W-2 employment positions may receive a monthly payment of $673. During those 12 weeks the parent will not be required to participate in activities unless s/he volunteers to participate. A parent may receive the custodial parent of an infant payment only if no other adult member of the custodial parent’s W-2 group is participating, or is eligible to participate, in a W-2 employment position or is working in an unsubsidized job. Whether or not the applicant is ready for unsubsidized employment is not considered in the same manner as a W-2 employment position.
W-2 provides a placement for these parents so they can stay at home and care for their child similar to the Family Medical Leave Act, and offers income support during the first 12 weeks of the child’s life. At the end of the 12-week period, the parent would be expected to join the workforce or participate in a W-2 employment position.
W-2 time limits may be applied during the 12-week period of time.
For Custodial Parent of an Infant policy, see the W-2 Manual, Chapter 7, Section 7.5.0.
