YoungStar Making Connections

Without quality childcare, children are more likely to become victims of abuse, enter the criminal justice system, and are less likely to graduate from high school. Part of DCF's mission is to provide families with access to quality early care and education, so that children can have a bright future and reach their highest potential. YoungStar builds upon DCF’s mission by promoting the growth and development of children and ensuring that they receive the best possible care.

While YoungStar creates many opportunities for children, it equally benefits child care providers. Ongoing education and training are essential to ensure that children are receiving the best possible care. This is why YoungStar offers incentives like training, on-site technical assistance, micro-grants, and support to improve the quality of early child care.

YoungStar Technical Consultant, Paula Wainscott, has seen first hand how the launch of YoungStar is improving early care education for kids. In a recent email, Paula shared that she had been working with a young woman who had just registered for her first online class towards completing her Associates degree. This young woman was feeling apprehensive about the online format. Later that day, when Paula spoke to another provider who had just recently received her own Associates degree, the second provider enthusiastically offered her phone number to Paula so that she could share her positive experience with the other woman.

Paula was pleased to know that one of the unexpected results of her work was the networking that grew between centers and the support they could provide one another. Paula praised, "I believe YoungStar may be a catalyst to bring providers together and when we bring people together around the topic of quality care for children, great things can happen!"

Providing children with an environment to grow and learn can often times prove challenging. However, DCF is dedicated to continually improving the quality of child care across the state by supporting child care providers, preventing fraud, and providing parents with the information they need to make informed decisions for their children. Thanks to YoungStar, connections are being made in communities across Wisconsin that will ensure children can reach their greatest ambitions.
