Statement from Secretary Reggie Bicha on Corrective Action Plan
Yesterday, Children's Rights Inc. released details on a corrective action plan for the Bureau of Milwaukee Child Welfare.
The Department of Children and Families and Children's Rights have worked together to create a plan that promotes the safety, permanence and well being of children in Milwaukee County. This plan reflects our shared commitment to enhancing services to better meet the needs of abused and neglected children and those that open their homes to care for them.
In 2002, a settlement agreement was reached in the lawsuit Children's Rights brought against the Milwaukee County child welfare system. Since 2003, BMCW has achieved compliance with eleven of the 16 enforceable actions in the settlement agreement. This agreement is reviewed, and action plans are produced annually.
The strategies listed in the action plan provide a blueprint for continued improvement of the child welfare system in Milwaukee County. I look forward to working in cooperation with Children's Rights as BMCW puts this plan into practice.
Reggie Bicha, Secretary
Wisconsin Department of Children and Families
