Your Role in TANF Training

To successfully complete training and to gain the most from training, you must actively participate in completing independent activities and all appropriate prerequisites. Take an active role in learning by

  • asking for help,
  • practicing more,
  • being proactive in seeking information,
  • displaying motivation through a positive attitude,
  • tracking issues/problems/questions while completing your independent learning,
  • maintaining ongoing communication with your Agency Training Liaison (ATL), and
  • being responsible for the progress and completion of all required training topics.

According to the Law

Administrative rules define the term "new worker" and outline the training requirements for both new and ongoing workers. Below is a brief summary of requirements for new and ongoing workers. Refer to the Administrative Rule and legislation for complete definitions and requirements.

New Worker Requirements

W-2 FEP

  • Appropriate Initial New Worker Training within 6 months of date of hire
  • Additional training within 12 months of date of hire, which includes Domestic Abuse training

W-2 Case Manager

  • Appropriate Initial New Worker Training within 6 months of date of hire
  • Additional training within 12 months of date of hire, which includes Domestic Abuse training

W-2 Resource Specialist

  • Appropriate Initial New Worker Training within 6 months of date of hire
  • Additional training within 12 months of date of hire, which includes Domestic Abuse training

Child Care

  • Appropriate New Worker Training within 6 months of date of hire

Ongoing Worker Requirements

W-2 FEP

  • 12 hours Enhanced Case Management
  • 12 hours Professional Development
  • other training as required

W-2 Resource Specialist

  • 12 hours Enhanced Case Management
  • 12 hours Professional Development
  • other training as required

Child Care

  • None
