Access to training

Access To Training

All training opportunities are accessed through the PTS Learning Center. Training is delivered both online and in the classroom setting around the state. The Learning Center:

  • Manages training by tracking the training topics students have enrolled in and completed,
  • Provides online access to schedules and registration for group learning activities.
  • Allows supervisors to monitor training completed by their staff, and
  • Allows supervisors to view the New Worker Training independent learning materials.
  • Provides additional resources to support the training process, such as links to the WI Lodging Directory.

These additional resources may also come in useful as you are participating in online course activities.

  • Distance Learning Tools - Downloadable tools used to access training materials within the Learning Center.
  • Learner Support - Support services available to help you successfully participate in online learning.

Methods

PTS utilizes a variety of methods for development and delivery of training. The method is determined through an evaluation of the needs of the audience and goals and objectives of the course.

  • Classroom or Face to Face - search the schedule and register for classroom training through the PTS Learning Center.
  • Computer Based Training (CBT) - CBTs requires the download of a player that can be located on our Distance Learning Tools page.
  • Webinars - Web conferences are used for synchronous learning opportunities, or same time interaction. PTS utilizes MicroSoft LiveMeeting to conduct these webinars. To attend a webinar, the LiveMeeting webplayer must be downloaded. You will receive a confirmation e-mail from the Learning Center with specific instructions when you are confirmed for a class.
  • Document - Most documents will open in a portable document format (.pdf) and may be read or printed.
  • Slide Show - Most slideshows open through standard software on your computer and allow the user to page through the content at his/her own pace.

Support

PTS is committed to supporting workers accessing training opportunities, whether classroom or distance, through:

  • Support of local agencies in determining training needs of individual workers and/or locating appropriate training opportunities through online resources on our Opportunities webpage.
  • Providing tools to support distance learning through our Distance Learning Tools webpage.
  • Providing support to individuals new to the distance learning process through the Learner Support webpage.
  • Publishing a Technical Resolutions document providing instructions for the resolution some of common technical issues. If your issue is not listed or you continue to have problems after attempting the resolution, please contact Mark Schmitt at mark.schmitt@wisconsin.gov or 920-424-5660.
