Exceptions to Child Abuse and Neglect Confidentiality
Requirement |
The Governor recently signed the biennial budget (1999 WI Act 9). Included in
that act were some changes to Ch. 48. Among those changes was an additional exception to
the child abuse and neglect confidentiality provisions. This change expands parental
authorization for disclosure of a child’s record by allowing either parent of a child
to disclose a record for use in an adoption proceeding under s.48.833 (1), 48.835, 48.837
or 48.839 when the child has been the subject of a report. As with the limitations
previously set forth in s. 48.981(7), any information that would identify a reporter must
be deleted before disclosure of the record.
