Children's Residential Facility and Child Placing Agency Directories

For a statewide list of child welfare programs licensed by the Department of Children and Families, click on the type of program from the descriptions below.  The lists are organized by county and are alphabetical within each county.

Directories are provided in two formats:

1. Microsoft Excel - you will need to have Microsoft Excel or any spreadsheet program that can read Excel 95 or 97 in order to view these files.  The Excel files are useful for mail merge and label creation as well as sorting the information in different ways.  
2. Portable Document Format (PDF) - to view these files you need a free program called Adobe Reader.  This type of file is formatted to look exactly like the original document, which is comparable to someone taking a picture of the document.  Adobe Reader is available free-of-charge by downloading it from www.adobe.com. 

Information for these directories comes from a database updated by staff in the Department.  Directories will be posted to this page quarterly (January, April, July, and October).

Child welfare providers with questions about data shown in their directory listing should contact the appropriate regional office.  

Group Foster Home is a facility operated by a person licensed by the Department pursuant to s. 48.625, Wis. Stats., to provide 24-hour care for 5-8 residents.  DCF 57 is the Administrative Rule governing the licensing of Group Foster Homes.

Residential Care Center for Children and Youth (RCC) means a residential care facility required to be licensed as a child welfare agency under s.48.60, Wis. Stats., that provides treatment and custodial care services for children, youth and young adults ages 18, 19 and 20.  DCF 52 is the Administrative Rule governing the licensing of RCCs.

Shelter Care Facility  means a non-secure place of temporary care and physical custody for children, including a holdover room, licensed by the Department under s. 48.66(1)(a), Wis. Stats.  DCF 59 is the Administrative Rule governing the licensing of shelter care facilities.

Child Placing Agency (CPA) means a child welfare agency licensed to place children in licensed family foster homes, treatment foster homes and licensed group homes.  DCF 54 is the Administrative Rule governing the licensing of CPAs.
