Fostering Our Future

Doug Sarchet from Amery, WI

Many times, we hear stories about single foster moms, but it is rare to hear stories of single foster dads. Doug Sarchent is one of those rare stories. He has been a foster parent for over 10 years, initially fostering a teenage boy with diabetes. He was willing to learn how to care for the diabetic child and welcomed him into his home. In 2007 Doug also began to care for the boy’s younger brother, reuniting them during the holiday season that year. After the boys' parents eventually lost their parenting rights, Doug decided to adopt the two brothers to keep them together.

Doug is a single parent. He has chosen to maintain contact with the boys' biological family including their grandmother. She passed away in March 2010, and if it were not for Doug's efforts to make regular visits possible between the boys and their grandmother, they would not have had the chance to spend this quality time with her before she passed away.

Doug's efforts to keep the brothers together in foster care, then adopting them and maintaining regular contact with their family, shows the dedication and love that Doug has provided to these two boys in need of a loving home.
