Fostering Our Future
Lois Kuether from Wausau, WI
DCF is committed to ensuring that a child's stay in foster care is the best that it can be and the shortest possible. Foster parent Lois Kuether exemplifies that goal. Since 1994, she has continually provided the best care possible for each and every child that enters her home. She accepts the most challenging children without hesitation and provides them with a loving, nurturing, and structured home. She has a passion to see the children and families of the Wausau community succeed.
Lois makes a commitment to children and their families that lasts long after they have left her home. One little girl that was placed with her had a spunky attitude that added on to challenging behaviors. Lois worked hard with the girl on changing her behaviors and showed the upmost patience. She found the techniques that worked and those that didn't and shared the knowledge with the girl's mother. When the child was returned home Lois continued to be supportive of the family, babysitting for the mother when she had to work and even cutting one of the sibling's hair. Lois gave the family lasting tools to positively change the little girl's behavior and help the mother.
Lois eases the children's time in foster care by getting to know them and providing them with opportunities. She teaches independent living, communication, and social skills while making sure each child knows that they are valued, respected and loved by her.
Lois received the 2010 Governor's Foster Care Award for her extraordinary commitment to foster children and families.
