Adoption Inquiries

PURPOSE:

To ensure that applicants inquiring about adoption receive adequate information about the special needs adoption program and to monitor the effectiveness of recruitment efforts.

PROCEDURE:

The adoption program has designated 1-800-947-8074 as the one telephone line for inquiries from prospective adoptive parents. Inquiries to this telephone line will be referred to local offices.

An adoption inquiry is a verbal or written contact about adoption where the name and address or telephone number of the inquirer can be obtained. The local adoption social worker assigned to work with the prospective adoptive home should document all inquiries using the Home Inquiry window in WiSACWIS within two (2) working days. The date that the informational packet was sent should be entered in the Home Inquiry checklist.

An informational packet shall be sent to all inquirers within two (2) working days of their request. The informational packet shall include the following items:

  • "Adoption Assistance…because Special Children Need Special Parents," PCS-105;
  • "Reimbursement of Adoption Expenses for Special Needs Children," PCS-747;
