
Adoption Inquiries
PURPOSE:
To ensure that applicants inquiring about adoption receive adequate information
about the special needs adoption program and to monitor the effectiveness of recruitment
efforts.
PROCEDURE:
The adoption program has designated 1-800-947-8074 as the one telephone line
for inquiries from prospective adoptive parents. Inquiries to this telephone line will be
referred to local offices.
An adoption inquiry is a verbal or written contact about adoption where the name and
address or telephone number of the inquirer can be obtained. The local adoption social
worker assigned to work with the prospective adoptive home should document all inquiries
using the Home Inquiry window in WiSACWIS within two (2) working days. The date that the
informational packet was sent should be entered in the Home Inquiry checklist.
An informational packet shall be sent to all inquirers within two (2) working days of
their request. The informational packet shall include the following items:
- "Adoption Assistance
because Special Children Need Special Parents,"
PCS-105;
- "Reimbursement of Adoption Expenses for Special Needs Children," PCS-747;
- A list of all public and private licensed adoption agencies in Wisconsin;
- A list of educational and supportive services;
- A list of contacts for the course on "Adopting a Child with Special Needs"
held at the States Technical College;
- The numbers and types of adoptive homes needed, and;
- The date, time and location of scheduled informational meetings.
