PURPOSE:
To assure that all potential adoptive parents attend a minimum of twelve (12) hours per
year of DCF approved training designed for foster parents or adoptive parents.
PROCEDURE:
- The Adoption Program, in conjunction with the Post Adoption Resource Centers, will
identify and compile a list of supportive resources and volunteer opportunities to support
a prospective adoptive parents knowledge and skills in adopting a child with special
needs.
The Educational and Support List developed by the Adoption Program must include methods
for contacting the resource, along with the following information:
- Class announcement, including time, dates, and location of the class "Adopting a
Child with Special Needs", as well as other relevant courses through the local
Technical College;
- Adoption support groups, including provider, group title, the location, dates and times
of the support group, and any associated costs;
- Volunteer opportunities which provide experience working with children including the
agency/organization, contact person, address and phone number;
- Resource materials available in local libraries, and;
- DCF Internet address for adoption information
- The Adoption Program will encourage all adoptive parents to attend educational programs
provided for foster parents when the content of the program is appropriate for prospective
adoptive parents.
- The Adoption Program must ensure that the resource list is updated no less than every
six (6) months. The resource list must be provided to all inquirers and prospective
adoptive parents in the preparation for adoption on a quarterly basis.
- All training attended by prospective adoptive families should be documented on the
Training Tab of the Home Provider window in WiSACWIS.
