Reporting Child Abuse and Neglect
If you are concerned about the safety and well-being of a child living in Milwaukee County, please call (414) 220-SAFE immediately.
To report alleged child abuse and/or neglect of children outside of Milwaukee County, please contact the Department of Human and Social Services for that county.
To report families outside Wisconsin, call the National Child Abuse Hotline at 1-800-4-A-CHILD and provide the name of the municipality in which the family resides. You will be given the number for the responsible child protective service agency in that area.
The information gathered during the call determines if the incident constitutes the legal definition of child abuse/neglect and how soon an Initial Assessment Worker will be sent to check on the child. Some reports assessed as possible child abuse or neglect are investigated within two hours; all reports must be investigated within five days.
