Child support & BadgerCare Plus

Questions parents ask

I do not know if I was referred to the Child Support program. How do I find out?
Your case worker will not be able to tell you when you first apply for BadgerCare Plus. Contact your local child support agency a week after you enroll in the BadgerCare Plus program. In general,

  • Most single, divorced, and separated parents in the Standard Plan will be referred, and
  • Most single, divorced, and separated parents in the Benchmark Plan will not be referred.

However, the referral rules are very complicated. Using a sophisticated computer program, we will check many details before referring parents to the Child Support program.

I am in the BadgerCare Plus program. I was not referred to the child support program. Can I still get child support services?
Yes. If you are not getting child support services, you can apply for these services. Please see Support Fees and Costs for any fees you might pay. If you are already getting child support services, your services will continue.
